Foul weather spurs on a blizzard of activity at STEO
Join STEO’s GM/CAO Ron Cotnam, as he walks viewers through the detailed process involved in the important decision to cancel transportation – a decision which is always informed first and foremost by issues of student safety.
In the video, Cotnam describes the stakeholders involved in the decision-making process and clearly outlines the steps associated with cancellation of busing. As STEO oversees the safe transportation of 35,000 students travelling over 120,000 kilometres each school day, this process is no small feat. It is a critical function that is handled with significant care and attention.
Viewers will learn that as most of the community sleeps, STEO’s inclement weather team, in conjunction with the school boards, The Weather Network, bus contractors and regional media, is hard at work gathering and communicating pertinent weather data and information about road conditions throughout STEO’s regions of service. By 6:15 a.m., once the school boards have made their final decisions around cancellation of student transportation, the public is informed of cancellation information through various means, including STEO’s website, the Inclement Weather Hot Line and local media outlets.
Tune in to STEO’s Inclement Weather Video for further details and a rare behind-the-scenes snapshot of the inclement weather procedures at work at STEO with an eye to supporting student safety. The video can be accessed through STEO’s website via the link…STEO Inclement Weather Video
